We are pleased to partner with the 14th Street Y to present this year’s art show “Peace Corps Creates…Art By Returned Volunteers.” The show will be on display in the Y’s lobby gallery from March 7th to April 11th.
Each artist spent at least two years overseas in service to their country as Peace Corps Volunteers. Whether they worked in education, community development or public health – Peace Corps service is a life-changer and a deeply formative experience. We invite you to meet one of our artists from this year’s show below.
As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mongolia, Lier Chen created mixed media paintings using vegetable oil, tar, strings, and other everyday materials available at her site, Ondorkhaan. Her recent paintings incorporate objects she found during her travels and gifts from people she met. They intend to engage and engender reflection on the transformative potential and boundlessness of creative expression and art as an everyday practice of healing. Lier studied drawing, photography, and film at Wesleyan University and has a M.A. in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University.
