Art Show

We are pleased to partner with the 14th Street Y to present this year’s art show “Peace Corps Creates…Art By Returned Volunteers.” The show will be on display in the Y’s lobby gallery from March 7th to April 11th.

Each artist spent at least two years overseas in service to their country as Peace Corps Volunteers. Whether they worked in education, community development or public health – Peace Corps service is a life-changer and a deeply formative experience. We invite you to meet one of our artists from this year’s show below.

Richard Breyer

Colombia, 1963-65

According to Richard Breyer, the Peace Corps defined his life in every aspect including his artwork. He’s spent most of my professional life as a documentary filmmaker. About five years ago, when he was in a dark place, he found sketching and watercolor. His two years in the Corps, more than any other chapter of his life, prepared him to discover what’s on the other side of darkness.
